Our Country
Botswana (formerly Bechuanaland) has been independent since 30 September 1966. A recent census estimates the population as 2 million. Diamonds were discovered in 1967 and are the primary source of revenue for Botswana. Botswana is the world's largest producer of diamonds in terms of value. Other areas of significance in terms of national revenue are the beef industry and tourism.

The country is internationally regarded as one of the most politically stable on the African continent.

We have a broad diversity of Clients ranging from Corporate entities to large and medium Commercial concerns. We have a strong book of Construction business and we also have several of the large hotel chains to whom we consult. We have a department dedicated to Small Business and Personal Lines and we have a vibrant book of Aviation clients.

In Botswana, we are acknowledged as one of the pre-eminent Risk Transfer brokers. We have a dedicated team of 28 personnel, who are well versed and experienced in Insurance practice. The value of our brand is a key component in our successes.

Our Markets
The following are represented locally - Botswana Insurance Company, Hollard Insurance Company, Mutual & Federal Insurance Company, Regent Insurance Company and Zurich Insurance Company. Maemo Cell Insurance and Sunshine are two new entries into our market. They are yet to fully achieve our approval. Santam are believed to be opening an office in Gaborone in 2012. In terms of intermediaries, we understand that there are 48 licences that are current.

Our Regulators
The Insurance Industry is regulated by the Non-Banking Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA). There is considerable ongoing debate presently between NBFIRA and the Industry over issues such as reinsurance and external placements generally.
