Marsh Environmental Services (MES) has been appointed as an independent environmental consultant by Rand Leases Properties (Pty) Ltd to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Process for the proposed development of the Rand Leases Extension 14 Township situated on a portion of the Remaining Portion of the Farm Vogelstruisfontein 231 IQ in Roodepoort.
The proposed development entails the construction of a high density township over a development area of 23.51ha in extent. The site is located east of the Creswell Park residential area, south of the approved Rand Leases Extension 12 Township and north of Main Reef Road East, which provides access to the site.
A development of this nature is a listed activity in terms of Government Notice R 387 (Activity no. 2) in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA, Act 107 of 1998) where any development activity, including associated structures and infrastructure, where the total area of the developed area is, or is intended to be, 20 hectares or more requires authorization from the approving authority, namely the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment (GDACE).
